Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to 4th grade! I hope this letter finds you and your family doing well. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and are excited to begin the new school year. I am delighted and excited to have the opportunity to work with your child this year!
I wanted to give you a quick overview of what you can expect in my classroom this coming school year. We have an exciting year ahead of us! I believe learning should be fun and engaging. Throughout the year your child will be completing units in all subject areas, projects, and class activities on traditional subject matter. However, you can expect your child to learn through educational games, cooperative learning activities, hands-on assignments, self-directed learning, and reflective journals. I use Google Classroom in 4th grade where students will be assigned their class work and homework. As a parent or guardian you will be invited to your child’s Google Classroom accounts. You will be able view assignments and monitor your child’s completion of their work. I will be sending home student email addresses and Google Classroom passwords in a separate communication and as well as the Parent Google Classroom invitations via your email. Students will be creating Google Slides, PowerPoints, and word documents for some of their assignments. Students will be taking their iPads home everyday. Please read the iPad Expectations link together with your child. Please email me to acknowledge that you have read it and discussed it with your child. They are responsible for making sure they charge their iPads nightly and bring them to school everyday. You can locate our schedule here.
In order for me to get to know your child better, I am sending this short parent questionnaire link. Please take a few minutes to write down some important information and important things I should know about your child. Your child will be completing a student survey the first week of school as well. I am looking for any insight that you are willing to share in order to help me get to know your child and best support him/her this year.
Students will receive 45-60 minutes of homework every night. All homework and updates will be posted on my website http://collazoclassroom204.weebly.com/ which is currently being updated for this upcoming new school year. Students will also be assigned monthly calendars on Google Classroom that they will use to update daily classwork and homework. It will be your child’s responsibility to update their calendars daily before they leave school. Homework is due the next day unless they are informed otherwise. It is very important that the students take classwork and homework very seriously. The materials assigned for homework are an extension of the daily work and is meant to practice and reinforce the daily skills learned. Students will be completing their GoMath work in their consumable books, taking a picture of the completed assignments, attaching the image of their work on their assignments on Google Classroom. For all other subjects, assignments will be assigned using a wide range and types of documents/apps such as Google Slides, Google Docs, and/or hard paper copies of activities. They will also need to take pictures of the assignments and attach it to Google Classroom before submitting their assignments in Google Classroom.
